Barcelona consider the signing of Atletico Madrid forward ‘impossible’, working on alternatives Just as FC Barcelona have moved forward in their pursuit of Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, it appears that they may have faced a setback in their attempt to sign Julian Alvarez. The Atletico Madrid and Argentina striker has emerged as the La Liga champions’ top target this summer as they look to replace Robert Lewandowski. Their opening offer of €100 million was shot down by Los Colchoneros , who have made it very clear that they do not wish to part ways with the 26-year-old. Alvarez deal a lost cause? Barça have kept on making efforts to try and make inroads, with club sporting director Deco even travelling to Madrid this week to meet with the forward’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo. It was reported that Alvarez, once he returns to training next week, might reiterate his desire to leave, to put further pressure on Atleti . But, despite all this, the Rojiblancos have no intention of changing their stance , which has seemingly led Barcelona, as of today, to pretty much consider the pursuit of Alvarez a lost cause. They have already missed out some of their backup options, with Joao Pedro set for a new contract at Chelsea, Eli Junior Kroupi sidelined for months with an injury and Fisnik Asllani on his way to RB Leipzig. So, it will be interesting to see who Barcelona decide to go after in the coming days. Dusan Vlahovic, a free agent after leaving Juventus, has been waiting for the Catalans to make an approach, even as Besiktas push for his signing. Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen’s services have also been offered to the club.
