Liverpool now having discussions about their next move, it’s good news Richard Hughes still has a lot of work to do before Liverpool are ready to take on the 2026-27 season. The Englishman may be heading towards Al-Hilal by the end of the summer transfer window but for now, he's the man leading Liverpool's transfer business. Of course, during the 2025-26 summer transfer window, Hughes spent an awful lot of money trying to improve the Reds' ranks, and, while some moves worked out, others have flopped. The ones that have flopped have led to cracks emerging among Liverpool's starting XI and, even though they tried to solidify certain positions last term, it feels like they're going to have to do the same again this summer. At the moment, however, it's unclear what the future has in store for Liverpool and their transfer business which is why the latest news to emerge from Anfield will be music to the ears of fans. Andoni Iraola has a lot of work to do at Liverpool. Indeed, his performance as Bournemouth's manager was close to perfect last term as he managed to earn them a sixth-place finish. He also developed his attackers incredibly well which is probably what the Anfield outfit are hoping he'll be able to do for them. Because, at the moment, it feels like the Reds' academy graduates are going to have a massive impact on their season. Kieran Morrison, Trey Nyoni and potentially even Calvin Ramsay could all end up regularly featuring for Liverpool this term. However, as good as the Reds' youth prospects are, that doesn't mean that they can just stop exploring the market for potential deals. And now, as per a fresh update from Ben Jacobs, it seems like Hughes and Co. could be about to enter the market for another new signing. "Liverpool are internally discussing full backs," he said on the Born n Red Podcast. Liverpool desperately need to bring in a new full-back this summer One of the main areas of Liverpool's squad that needs upgrading is their defence. At the moment, three of their four centre-backs are side-lined due to injury which, with the Premier League season less than a month away, is far from ideal. And, to make things worse, Conor Bradley still doesn't have a return date yet so, Liverpool only have Jeremie Frimpong who can be used there. Fortunately, Iraola does have a choice of two players at left-back in Kostas Tsimikas and Milos Kerkez but, after their performances last term, it's unclear how well they're actually going to do. If Iraola and Hughes can try and find a full-back who can play on either side of the pitch, it would be ideal. But, since players like that are often hard to come by, it could end up being has hard as finding a needle in a haystack. However, if Liverpool want to get back to their best, signings are definitely needed with their back line a main priority.
