Burnley sign veteran forward Williams Burnley have completed the signing of veteran forward Rachel Williams from their Barclays WSL2 rivals Leicester City. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Clarettes this morning, The 38-year-old has signed a one-year deal at Turf Moor with the option of an additional year. Williams joins Burnley after spending the second half of last season with Leicester City. The forward made 10 appearances for The Foxes but was unable to help keep the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Williams has enjoyed a 22-year senior playing career. The player has had three spells with Leicester City and two spells with Birmingham City while she has also turned out for Doncaster Rovers Belles, Chelsea, Notts County, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. After joining Burnley, Williams said “It’s exciting to be back up north now with a new challenge. Burnley are a club that have been promoted, so it’s a first for both of us being in this league and I’m looking forward to it. “Speaking to Jackie [Bachteler], I was really impressed with her and the Club’s vision. Claudia Mummery-Walker’s a good mate of mine and women’s football’s a small world, so I know the likes of Charlie Wellings, Christie [Harrison-Murray], Deanna [Cooper] and Kirstie [Levell] too. “It’s a little bit easier coming to a new club when you know people.” Burnley kick-off the Barclays WSL2 season at Watford on 4 September 2026.
