Wycombe struggling to land striker, says Duff

This is Michael Duff's first summer transfer window as Wycombe boss [Getty Images] Wycombe Wanderers boss Michael Duff says they have been "blown out of the water" by other clubs in their attempts to sign a new forward. The Chairboys will start their season with a Carabao Cup fixture against Stevenage on Friday - and are keen to boost their attacking options. "We've had big bids in for players and have been blown out the water," Duff told BBC Three Counties Radio. "I'm talking about £1m-plus bids, so it's not for a lack of ambition. You've got clubs that have come into the league, in terms of MK Dons, who are going mad with spending. "Every centre-forward in League One that we've been quoted on has been £1m-plus - and the salaries that go with it. It's gone mad. What we've done is sensible, I'd say". But with only midfielder Fred Onyedinma - who signed a new deal with the club in June - making it into double figures for league goals last season, Duff wants to "add definitely one, possibly two" new players before the transfer window closes on 1 September. He said: "There was a lot of signings made in the two windows before I got here, so we're trying to be a bit more selective. "Emre's [Tezgel] come in and scored two in two [in pre-season]. We think we know what we're going to get from a Steve Cook, we think we know what we're going to get from a Cauley Woodrow, but they're on free transfers. "We are still looking to add. I've spoken to some managers, and they're like 'the season starts next week, and I need five, six, seven, eight [players]'. The beauty is we've got a little bit of continuity."
