Lamine Yamal’s confident words ahead of World Cup final: ‘I never think about defeat’ The FIFA World Cup was a special competition for Barcelona, for Spain’s victory was a direct win for the club and the academy in many ways. The Catalans, after all, had as many as eight players in the World Cup-winning team with the likes of Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Ferran Torres and even Pedri having prominent roles in the competition. In fact, even the winning goal in the final was scored by a Barcelona player, and it is clear that the stocks of all of the team’s representatives in La Roja are at an all-time high. Yamal’s ice-cold confidence before the final Earlier today, the Spanish national team released some visuals of Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal which were taken in the hours leading up to the final against Argentina. During those interactions, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo , Yamal exhibited calmness, confidence and a mentality that is simply unbelievable for a player of his age. The youngster also spoke at the time about how he was not nervous and how the reality had still not dawned on him. “I’m not nervous. I think we are still not aware that we are going to play a World Cup final.” Finally, Yamal exhibited great confidence in openly stating that he only saw a scenario where his team lifted the trophy and that he was not even thinking of a possible defeat. “I never think about defeat. In my mind, it doesn’t enter my mind to lose. All I imagine is raising the cup.” Returning to training soon The youngster will return to training next week. Now a World Champion as just a teenager , Yamal is expected to return to Barcelona next week and will begin working under Hansi Flick once more. The entire Spanish contingent will be back in Catalonia on August 12th, and the winger will once again link up with the core of the Spanish national team who are in Barcelona, possibly even with his captain at the World Cup – Rodri.
