WSL2: Former Lioness Rachel Williams signs for newly promoted Burnley from Leicester City Former England and Team GB international Rachel Williams has signed for newly promoted Women’s Super League 2 side Burnley on a one-year deal. The 38-year-old joins the ranks at the Clarets from rivals Leicester City, following their relegation last season. Williams brings an admirable pedigree to Jackie Bachteler’s side, who are looking to push on following their historic promotion from the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division. After finishing top of the table last season, Burnley booked their place to compete in the second tier of the women’s football pyramid for the first time in their history. Rachel Williams marks new chapter with Burnley in WSL2 Williams joins Burnley for their maiden campaign in the WSL2. The Clarets will be the eighth club she has represented throughout her career, which started at girlhood club Leicester. The forward has represented the Foxes on three different occasions. Williams has also enjoyed stints with Doncaster Rovers Belles, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The 38-year-old has won the FA Cup with both Birmingham City and Manchester United. Williams reached the FA Cup final on three occasions with United. She spent four years with the Red Devils before her return to Leicester in January this year. Embed from Getty Images On the international stage, Williams has 15 caps for England and she was named in Hope Powell’s Team GB squad for the 2012 Olympics in London. “It’s exciting to be back up north now with a new challenge,” Williams said.
