Confirmed Barcelona set to play pre-season friendly against FC Basel

Confirmed Barcelona set to play pre-season friendly against FC Basel Barcelona have officially added another fixture to their 2026/27 pre-season schedule. Hansi Flick’s side will face FC Basel on Sunday, 16 August, with kick-off scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CEST at St. Jakob-Park, one of Switzerland’s most iconic football stadiums. Following the friendly against Birmingham City and the triangular tournament in Udine featuring Nottingham Forest and Udinese, the trip to Basel will provide another important test as the Catalans continue their preparations for the new campaign. The club’s final pre-season outing will then be the Joan Gamper Trophy, against Al-Ahly, which will also serve as the team’s official home presentation ahead of the new season. Previous meetings Barcelona and Basel have met twice in official competition, both during the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League group stage. The Catalan side recorded an emphatic 5-0 victory at St. Jakob-Park, with goals from Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernandez and a Bojan Krkic brace. The return fixture at what is now the Spotify Camp Nou finished 1-1, with Messi once again finding the net. Before those encounters, Barcelona had also faced a Basel city representative team in the 1958/60 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, winning both matches 2-1 away and 5-2 at home. More than four decades after they won their first major European Trophy in Basel in 1979, Barcelona will return to the city next weekend. The friendly against Basel was arranged in a swift manner after Barcelona were forced to cancel their plans to play Ittihad Tanger in Morocco on 15 August.
