Arsenal sign Bruno Guimaraes for $101 million: Where will he slot in?
Arsenal have completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes for $101 million from Newcastle United as Mikel Arteta's reigning Premier League champs are not resting on their laurels. Guimaraes, 28, expressed his desire for a "new challenge" after captaining Newcastle to the League Cup in 2025 and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League twice under former manager Eddie Howe. "I’m here to play like a warrior – I’ll never give up," Guimaraes told Arsenal's fans after completing his move to the Gunners. The central midfielder had signed a four-year contract with an option of an extra year. A force of nature. When it comes to his arrival at Arsenal, how will Guimaraes fit in to Arteta's side? The Brazilian international is a born winner and leader and has exactly the kind of drive and fight Arteta loves. He also has plenty of quality on the ball and will deliver exquisite set pieces to help Arsenal grow even stronger in that area. He will likely start alongside Declan Rice in central midfield which then leaves the likes of Eberechi Eze, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Max Dowman scrapping for the No. 10 spot. Arsenal's midfield depth is now pretty strong, even after Christian Norgaard left for Everton. If Myles Lewis-Skelly sticks around then he will be the back up to either Rice or Guimaraes. The biggest name to be impacted by this signing is Arsenal captain Odegaard. Does this now mean he will play further forward as the No. 10? Or will Odegaard compete with Guimaraes for minutes? It's clear Arsenal have spent over $100 million for Guimaraes to be a starter and his fire and ability to win the ball back will give them an extra edge in midfield and he is exactly the kind of character Arteta loves.
