Report: Serie A giants keen on move for Chelsea star Napoli Weigh Up Benoit Badiashile Move as Chelsea Plan Defender Exit Napoli Face Badiashile Decision Napoli have Benoit Badiashile firmly under consideration as they seek defensive reinforcement, although money may determine whether interest becomes a deal. According to Sky Sports, discussions have exposed a valuation gap between Napoli and Chelsea. The Italian club must now decide whether to continue negotiations or pursue another target. Chelsea are looking to move several centre backs on this summer, with Badiashile expected to be among the departures. Napoli favour taking the 25 year old on loan, potentially adding a conditional obligation to buy to make the proposal more attractive to Chelsea. Photo IMAGO Aguerd Waiting in Wings There is little incentive for Napoli to panic. Former West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd, now at Marseille, represents a credible alternative if agreement cannot be reached. Badiashile remains an intriguing option. He has physical presence, Premier League experience and, at 25, should be approaching his prime years. Chelsea’s position matters too. They want to streamline their defensive options, but that should not mean compromising unnecessarily on value. Napoli’s decision is expected soon. For Badiashile, regular football elsewhere may offer the fresh start his career increasingly needs. Our View Chelsea supporters could be forgiven for viewing another possible defender departure with a mixture of expectation and frustration. Badiashile arrived with considerable promise, possessing the physical attributes and composure that suggested he could become an important figure at Stamford Bridge. That development has never really gathered momentum. At 25, there is still a very good defender in there. Napoli’s interest reinforces that point. Italian football has traditionally offered centre backs an environment in which positioning, anticipation and tactical discipline are treasured, and Badiashile could benefit enormously from consistent minutes. Chelsea, however, must protect their investment. A loan can be useful, especially when accompanied by a realistic obligation to buy. A vague conditional agreement that leaves Chelsea facing exactly the same problem next summer would achieve considerably less. Napoli having Aguerd available as an alternative certainly strengthens their negotiating position. Chelsea should still resist being hurried into an unfavourable agreement. From a supporter’s perspective, the bigger picture is squad clarity. Chelsea have spent years collecting young players and repeatedly restructuring the group. Decisions now need conviction. If Badiashile has no meaningful place in the plans, facilitate his departure. Get the valuation right, secure appropriate terms and allow everyone to move forward. Sometimes a transfer benefits player and club equally, and this increasingly looks like one of those occasions. Source: Sky Sports
