Barcelona sporting director rejects the opportunity to sign Tottenham’s rising star After yet another disappointing campaign that almost culminated into relegation, Tottenham Hotspur are going through a reset of sorts, under new manager Roberto de Zerbi. The Lilywhites have already seen Luka Vuskovic leave the club while many other star players have been linked with an exit. While Lucas Bergvall might not necessarily top that list, it appears the player did try to make his way out of North London. Bergvall was offered to Barcelona Bergvall has performed well at Spurs. However, the interest was not reciprocated. Deco and the Barcelona sporting department have no intention of reviving a deal for the Swedish midfielder, despite his name resurfacing in connection with the club. It marks a notable shift from a couple of years ago, when Barcelona were genuinely keen on the youngster. Now, with the player’s camp actively seeking an exit, the Catalans have made clear they will not be tempted into a move. A deal that got away in 2024 Bergvall was a top target for Barcelona in 2024. Back in 2024, the Swede visited Barcelona’s facilities and met with Deco, with his family also involved in the discussions. Ultimately, though, Tottenham won the race by tabling a superior financial offer, and Barcelona refused to increase their bid, allowing the young midfielder to move to London instead. Two years on, and despite Bergvall having struggled to make a telling impact at Spurs, Barcelona remain unwilling to reconsider. Part of that reluctance stems from Barcelona’s current priorities. The club are focused on landing Rodri from Manchester City to bolster their midfield, particularly with Frenkie de Jong sidelined through injury, and are also chasing a new striker in Julian Alvarez. With those bigger targets dominating their attention, and their financial resources stretched, a move for Bergvall simply does not align with Barcelona’s plans this summer. For the Swede, then, the search for a fresh start will have to continue elsewhere.
