Thibaut Courtois excited for Jose Mourinho era at Real Madrid
Thibaut Courtois excited for Jose Mourinho era at Real Madrid Almost all of the Real Madrid first team are back in training ahead of the 2026-27 season starting in a couple of weeks. Thibaut Courtois was the latest to return, having gone back to Valdebebas over the weekend . Upon being back in Real Madrid training, Courtois spoke to the club’s official media channels (via Diario AS ). He started the interview by explaining that he chosen to return days early in order to ensure that his body was at 100% after he ended the 2026 World Cup with an injury. “I’ve come back a little earlier because with the injury I wanted to make sure everything was okay by doing individual training before being with the team. Today I already did goalkeeper training and I felt very good and happy to be back in training.” Courtois was also asked about working under Jose Mourinho again. The pair were together at Chelsea, and the Belgian goalkeeper admitted that he’s very excited to be back under the orders of the Portuguese. “Mourinho is a coach who demands a lot, discipline, the group before individuals. Those are important issues for me to win. He is a great coach and as a human being he is very close. It tells things as they are and I like it. I think that’s the direction we need to take. We met at Chelsea, we won the Premier League together. I have a good memory of him and I am happy again to be at his command. We hope to work well together and have beautiful years here.” Courtois hopeful of positive season for Real Madrid Courtois also believes that Mourinho can lead the club back to glory, following back-to-back season without a major trophy being brought back to the Bernabeu. “We’re really looking forward to it. Personally, I want to win titles. It’s important for the team, the fans and the club to win again. After the World Cup and the injury I wanted to feel well quickly and it has been the case to be ready for training tomorrow. There are quite a few new players, some we know from having played against them but the World Cup has ended very late this year and it is not easy for the coach to get everyone to come little by little.” “(Mourinho) has given everyone a good rest and that is important to empty the head because it is a very long year and if you start too quickly the injuries come earlier. We will pick up a fast pace because we have not stopped for long and we will be fine. Everyone is looking forward to being together again and fighting for a new season.”
