Jeff Bezos consortium set to acquire stake in Liverpool

Jeff Bezos consortium set to acquire stake in Liverpool The Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is part of a consortium that is close to buying a minority stake in Liverpool.  According to Sky News , the consortium, led by Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook’s co-founder Eduardo Saverin, is closing in on a deal to buy a roughly one-third stake in the English club.  They have been in discussions with the Reds’ current owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) for about three months.  The talks between the two groups have progressed well and an announcement about the deal is expected in the coming days.  Bezos reportedly boasts a fortune worth around $257 billion, making him the world’s fourth richest person.  The 62-year-old has previously explored bids for National Football League (NFL) franchises Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, but didn’t proceed with either deal.  The American businessman has never considered investing in the Premier League, but his consortium is now close to buying a stake in Liverpool.  FSG, who also own Major League Baseball (MLB) giants the Boston Red Sox, paid around $400m for the Merseyside club in 2010. The Reds are now valued at $6 bn.  Liverpool have enjoyed one of the most successful periods in their modern history under FSG, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League.  The American owners explored the possibility of attracting new investment in recent years before deciding to sell only minority stakes.  Investment firm Dynasty Equity acquired a minority stake in the club in 2023.
