Exeter sign Wolves winger Sutherland on loan

Ethan Sutherland made three Premier League match-day squads last season at Wolves [Getty Images] Exeter City have signed Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ethan Sutherland on a loan deal until the end of the season. The 20-year-old is the fifth signing of the summer for the Grecians, who are preparing for a campaign in League Two following relegation from League One at the end of last season. Sutherland joined Wolves from Scottish outfit St Mirren in the summer of 2024, having also previously enjoyed a loan spell with Alloa Athletic and spent time at National League club Solihull Moors. The left wing-back was also included in three Premier League squads for Wolves over the course of last season following a series of impressive performances for their Premier League 2 team. Sutherland has agreed to move to St James' Park for the campaign and will be included in their squad for the EFL Cup meeting with local rivals Plymouth Argyle on Monday night. "Ethan is an exciting young talent who will provide competition for places down our left side," Exeter City manager Matt Taylor said . "He has a fantastic left foot and will be an asset for us, particularly with his ability to deliver from dead-ball situations. "Ethan is young, and there is still a lot for him to learn. He will need to continue to develop physically, but we're excited that Wolves have trusted us to help with that development during his loan spell. "He's a player with a lot of potential, and we're looking forward to working with him and helping him take the next step in his career." Sutherland will play alongside new signings Gwion Edwards, Josh Gordon, Taylor Perry and Harry Kite.
