Blackburn sign midfielder Morsy on one-year deal
Blackburn Rovers have signed former Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy as a free agent on a one-year deal. The 34-year-old midfielder achieved back-to back promotions at Ipswich and skippered the side during their Premier League campaign in 2024-25. Although born in Wolverhampton, Morsy has represented Egypt at international level, and left Ipswich in May 2025 after a four-year spell to play for Kuwait SC. He was released by them after only two months and and last appeared for Bristol City, scoring the opening goal in the Robins' 4-2 defeat by Norwich in April. Morsy is just three appearances short of 600 in a career which began in 2009 and has achieved six promotions in total. He is Rovers' third signing of the summer, following Moussa Baradji and Jayden Fevrier through the door at Ewood Park.
