Confirmed: Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo completes loan move to Liverpool Barcelona have officially confirmed that Ronald Araujo has completed his loan move to Liverpool for the 2026-27 season, bringing an end to the uncertainty surrounding the Uruguay international’s future. “FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the loan of Ronald Araujo until 30 June 2027,” the club’s official statement released earlier today read. The 27-year-old defender had already travelled to England on Sunday , with the final formalities of his move to the Premier League club completed shortly after his arrival.  Liverpool and Barcelona have now made the agreement official, with Araujo set to spend the upcoming campaign at Anfield. Notably, the deal also gives the Reds an option to make the transfer permanent for €55 million at the end of the loan spell. The centre-back then went directly to the club’s facilities, where he completed his pre-signing medical. The defender also took part in his first photography and content sessions as a Liverpool player before the remaining paperwork was finalised. With the main steps completed, Barcelona and Liverpool were able to confirm the loan agreement officially. The move represents a significant change for Araujo, who had been part of Barcelona’s first-team plans but faced uncertainty over his role going into the new season. His status at the Catalan club had become a major talking point, particularly after his conversation with Hansi Flick regarding his expected role in the squad. Araujo ultimately decided that a temporary move away from Barcelona could offer him the opportunity to regain his best form and enjoy a more prominent role. Liverpool have now provided him with that opportunity. The agreement is structured as a loan for the 2026-27 campaign, but the Premier League club will have the option to sign the defender permanently for €55 million.
