Walsall sign defender Dixon from Everton

Roman Dixon has represented England at under-16 and under-20 level [Getty Images] Walsall have completed the signing of former Everton defender Roman Dixon on a two-year contract, with a club option of a further year. The 21-year-old right-back was released by the Toffees at the end of last season, bringing to an end a ten-year association with the Premier League club. Dixon spent the second half of last season on loan at League One side Stockport County, but had previously also gained first-team exposure with Everton, for whom he made three senior appearances. He becomes Walsall's 12th signing of what has proven to be a busy summer of business under new boss Lee Grant, who commenced his reign with an impressive 1-0 win over Championship side Bristol City in the EFL Cup at Ashton Gate on Thursday evening. "I grew up not too far from here in Stafford/Wolverhampton so it feels like a trip down memory lane in some ways but when the gaffer rang me I was sold instantly," Dixon told the club website. "He gave me his plan, his philosophy and his style of play over many conversations and they were nothing but positive things to hear - the way he spoke and sees the game sparked my interest from the off."
