In these discussions, City made it clear that they are interested in Fernandez. “Enzo Maresca is a big fan of Fernandez, with the pair enjoying a good relationship at Chelsea. Maresca had internally discussed the possibility of signing Fernandez even before reports emerged linking Rodri with a move away from City. “Chelsea are happy with Fernandez and would only consider selling him for £120 million. City are not prepared to spend that much, meaning the deal would be complicated if Chelsea refuse to lower their asking price.” The Blues may not be prepared to listen to offers for Fernandez late in the transfer window, meaning City would need to step up their efforts as soon as possible. Chelsea want their squad settled before their Premier League opening match against Fulham on August 24. Fernandez resumed pre-season training on Monday following his involvement with Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly happy to keep Fernandez, but would not stand in his way if he decides to leave.
