The club particularly need a new midfielder who can hold the fort in the middle of the park. But having missed out on Rodri , the club are running out of options. Martin Zubimendi has been a long time target, who may yet leave Arsenal still summer, especially after the signing of Bruno Guimaraes. But Real Madrid have one more option in the Premier League. But now, with Real Madrid in desperate need of midfielders, Wharton could yet become an option for coach Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese head coach is a huge admirer of Wharton, who is known for his ability to effortlessly circulate possession. In fact, the Englishman is stylistically very similar to Toni Kroos. Real Madrid see Wharton favourably as they believe the Palace midfielder is compatible with many of the big names in the team. The player has a contract at Selhurst Park until 2029, giving the Eagles the leverage to ask for a higher price tag. In fact, Palace value Wharton at around €100 million, which makes him significantly more expensive than Rodri, granted the Englishman is a far younger option as well. It must be noted that Real Madrid’s reluctance at meeting Man City’s asking price led to the Rodri deal falling apart. With Wharton costing even higher, it remains to be seen whether Los Blancos will even make a move.
