Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha agrees personal terms with Aston Villa

Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha agrees personal terms with Aston Villa João Palhinha has reportedly agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and informed Bayern Munich that he wants to complete a return to the Premier League. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano , the Portuguese international is prepared to join Villa as soon as the two clubs reach an agreement. Discussions between Aston Villa and the Bundesliga outfit are now expected to follow, with the player side of the prospective transfer already settled. The development represents a significant step forward from only a few days ago. Get German Football News reported at the weekend that Aston Villa sporting director Damian Vidagany had publicly confirmed the club’s interest in Palhinha . Villa require midfield reinforcement following Amadou Onana’s season-ending injury, with Vidagany identifying Palhinha as a player capable of fitting Unai Emery’s plans. Bayern were reportedly seeking approximately €25m for a permanent transfer. Palhinha currently maintains a €15m estimated market value in the latest Transfermarkt listings. The two clubs could still come to terms on a loan deal with a purchase option.  Palhinha ready to end difficult Bayern chapter A move would finally bring Palhinha’s unusual Bayern spell towards a conclusion. The former Fulham midfielder arrived in Munich in 2024 after Bayern paid approximately €51m, but struggled for regular playing time under Vincent Kompany. Bayern eventually loaned Palhinha to Tottenham Hotspur for the 2025/26 campaign. The Portugal international later expressed frustration over his first season in Munich , claiming that he had not received the opportunities he believed he deserved. Tottenham ultimately declined to make his move permanent, sending Palhinha back to Säbener Straße this summer. His prospects of earning another opportunity remained remote. Get German Football News reported earlier this month that Kompany backed Bayern’s decision to openly communicate that Palhinha, Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza could leave . The permanent signing of teenage midfielder Bara Sapoko Ndiaye subsequently added another option to an already crowded Bayern midfield. Palhinha has now seemingly made his own preference clear.
