However, City have so far signed Elliot Anderson, Jeremy Monga, Mathys Detourbet and Pierce Charles. Today, City have announced their fifth signing of the summer. Goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli has been unveiled as a Manchester City player. Rulli arrives at City from Marseille and will immediately become Manchester City’s backup goalkeeper behind Gianluigi Donnarumma. Gerónimo Rulli is excited to be a Manchester City player once again. Manchester City have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli from Marseille. The 34 year old goalkeeper arrives at the Etihad after spending his career throughout Europe. Rulli has played for Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Ajax, Montpellier and Marseille. The Argentinian goalkeeper was also briefly on Manchester City’s books during the 2016-17 season. He was loaned to Real Sociedad before eventually being sold to the La Liga outfit. Speaking with mancity.com after completing his move to the Etihad, Gerónimo Rulli explained that he was excited by the opportunity to play for Manchester City. Rulli added that he fully intended to grasp the opportunity in front of him. Rulli’s said: “ This is an amazing opportunity for me and one I had to grasp. The role that Gerónimo Rulli will play for Manchester City is obvious. He will be Gianluigi Donnarumma’s understudy and the Argentinian goalkeeper is perhaps the ideal keeper for that role. Rulli brings tremendous experience to Enzo Maresca’s squad and his strengths do suits Manchester City’s style of play. Gerónimo Rulli is proficient with his feet so he should help City’s build-up play when he does start matches. Also, Rulli is a good shot-stopper as he has displayed throughout his career in Europe. Also, Gerónimo Rulli fills a hole in the Manchester City squad. James Trafford’s move to Leeds United meant that City were in the market for a backup goalkeeper. They have filled that gap in Enzo Maresca’s squad and now Gerónimo Rulli will have an important role to play as a member of Manchester City’s goalkeeping unit.
