What Lukaku’s Fenerbahce move means for Napoli, Arsenal and Gabriel Jesus
What Lukaku’s Fenerbahce move means for Napoli, Arsenal and Gabriel Jesus Romelu Lukaku has officially joined Fenerbahce in a permanent transfer from Napoli, which pushes the Partenopei towards the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, but Massimiliano Allegri’s side must still clear some space in the current squad before finalising a deal for the Brazilian. Napoli still keen for Gabriel Jesus to replace Lukaku Lukaku has joined Fenerbahce at a cost of €6m plus up to €3m in bonuses after spending the last two seasons back in Serie A with Napoli. Romelu Lukaku completes the transfer from Napoli to Fenerbahce The sale of Lukaku means that Rasmus Hojlund and Lorenzo Lucca are now the only two senior centre-forward options available in Allegri’s squad. Lucca, however, is not expected to play a major role under Allegri in 2026-27 after a disastrous loan spell with Nottingham Forest during the second half of the 2025-26 season, and could also be moved on himself this summer. Reports from the Corriere dello Sport claim that Lazio could be interested in a potential loan deal for the towering Italy centre-forward. If Napoli are able to rehome Lucca this summer, then they will be left with just one senior centre-forward in their squad and a new addition would then become a necessity. LONDON, ENGLAND – MAY 24: Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal holds up his winners medal and five fingers to indicate his total Premier League wins during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Arsenal at Selhurst Park on May 24, 2026 in London, England. (Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images For Premier League) Gabriel Jesus appears to be the leading candidate to come in and strengthen the Napoli attack given that he is now into the final year of his contract with Arsenal and is likely to be allowed to leave if an appropriate offer were to come in this summer. Curiously, Jesus has the same agent as Napoli head coach Massimiliano Allegri and he has been spotted at the team’s training camp in Castel di Sangro on several occasions over the last week. Napoli must still move another player on first before bringing in Jesus, though, with Lucca and Noa Lang the most likely to be sold by the Partenopei this summer.
