Joao Palhinha’s Aston Villa move collapses

Joao Palhinha’s Aston Villa move collapses João Palhinha’s proposed move to Aston Villa has collapsed after the Premier League club failed to reach an agreement with Bayern Munich. The Portugal international had already agreed personal terms with Villa and informed Bayern that he wanted to return to England. That agreement will not arrive. Kicker confirms Bayern wanted approximately €30m for a permanent transfer, while Aston Villa were only prepared to take Palhinha on loan. Bayern Board Member for Sport Max Eberl has now publicly ruled out a compromise with the Europa League winners. The Bavarians paid approximately €51m to sign Palhinha from Fulham in 2024 and are prepared to accept a considerable loss, but not another temporary arrangement. Palhinha must therefore continue training with Bayern while another solution is sought before the transfer deadline. Max Eberl on Joao Palhinha’s collapsed transfer “We will not be able to reach an agreement with Aston Villa,” Eberl – quoted by Kicker – said at a club event. “It simply doesn’t work because we are not in a situation where we have to do everything that other clubs try to impose upon us.” “We still have two-and-a-half weeks,” Eberl continued. “We communicated very clearly from the beginning, both internally and externally , what the situation is. It isn’t easy to make decisions like these or deliver messages like these. But it is part of the business.” “There’s no chance of an agreement,” Eberl concluded. GGFN  |  Peter Weis
