However, the player has chosen Braga as the next step in his career. The 19-year-old had been a regular presence around Hansi Flick’s squad last season, even though he was officially registered with Barcelona’s reserve team. His involvement with the first team became more limited as the new season approached. During pre-season, Marques played only 28 minutes in Barcelona’s second match of the Udine triangular tournament, a 1-0 defeat against Udinese. That reduced role increasingly pointed towards an exit, and Barcelona have now found a deal that suits all parties. Rodri arrival changes Marques’ Barcelona future View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tomas Marques (@tommy.marques) Marques had initially entered the summer with a realistic chance of becoming more involved in the Barcelona senior setup. Last season, he made his first-team debut at just 18 years old, having featured for six minutes in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Mallorca at Camp Nou on February 7 and later made another brief appearance against Alaves. His path appeared set to become clearer following the expected departure of Marc Casado. However, Barcelona’s decision to push for Rodri changed the situation . With the Manchester City midfielder now set to arrive , competition in Barcelona’s midfield is expected to become even stronger. As a result, Marques could no longer count on a regular role in the senior squad, making a permanent transfer a more feasible option.
