Confirmed: Barcelona youngster joins Ajax in permanent transfer
Confirmed: Barcelona youngster joins Ajax in permanent transfer Following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s loan move, FC Barcelona and Ajax have now confirmed another transfer, with Jofre Torrents making the switch to the Dutch outfit. “Ajax have reached an agreement with FC Barcelona and Jofre Torrents regarding the transfer of the defender,” the statement from the Eredivisie giants read. “The 19-year-old player has signed a contract in Amsterdam that runs until June 30, 2030.” Torrents had been at the Barça academy since 2017, having joined La Masia as a 12-year-old prospect. The young left-back rose through the ranks gradually and made his first-team breakthrough in pre-season in 2025. He went on to make his official first-team debut in a La Liga match against Mallorca in August last year. The Spaniard featured three more times under Hansi Flick. Having been part of the first-team dynamics this summer during the pre-season, it was soon made clear to Torrents that he would not be a part of the team once the campaign started. After all, Barcelona are re-signing Joao Cancelo and have Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin as options as well. As such, the youngster decided to move on and sign for Ajax on a permanent transfer. While the statement does not divulge the details, the Catalans are expected to receive a fee of around €6 million for the teenager, while retaining 50% of his rights.
