Fabrizio Romano confirms super fast attacker is closing in on Liverpool Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a super fast attacker is closing in on a move to Liverpool. Richard Hughes' days are numbered by all accounts. The club's sporting director is expected to join Al Hilal at the end of the summer transfer window. In his final days at Liverpool, he still has a lot of work to be done until he can be satisfied with the job he has done at the club. Everything is changing at Liverpool right now. There is a new manager, new players and even new minority shareholders. It really does feel like a changing of the guard, although we are still waiting to see what all of this actually means for the team. There is a feeling that the next two weeks could bring plenty of movement before the transfer window closes. For Hughes, this is his final chance to shape his legacy at Anfield. He deserves credit for playing a role in bringing Andoni Iraola to the club, but there is also no escaping the fact that Liverpool were left with an unbalanced squad last season. The players Hughes signed could still prove to be excellent additions in the long run. For now, though, his departure would probably be met with a sense of indifference from many supporters. Hughes needs to add more pace, more movement and, most importantly, find a way to replace the enormous contribution left behind by Mohamed Salah in Liverpool's attack before the window draws to a close. So far, that mission has not gone to plan. Yan Diomande was viewed as the main target to fill that void, but we all know how that story ended. The winger is now at Real Madrid, leaving Liverpool to go back to the drawing board and look at other options. And there is potentially an even bigger problem on the horizon. Hughes may not just have to replace Salah. Cody Gakpo could also be on his way out, with Tottenham now making a serious push to bring the Dutchman to north London. Liverpool appear increasingly open to the possibility too. That would mean losing the two players who produced the most goals and assists during Liverpool’s 2024/25 title-winning campaign. But the attack has to evolve anyway. With Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz arriving, Liverpool need different profiles around them to get the best out of two major attacking additions. That means more pace, more players willing to run in behind and, crucially, more intensity without the ball. It is a big job for Hughes, but Liverpool need an attack that looks very different next season. Bradley Barcola is a key target for Liverpool, and he fits into exactly what Iraola's squad requires and what Hughes will be looking for in the market for the next two weeks. The Frenchman is one of the fastest players in Europe. Last season Barcola recorded a top speed of 36.7km/h. It made him the fifth fastest player in the Champions League, and that kind of speed is going to be music to Liverpool's ears. And it looks like Liverpool are also closing in on his signature. Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel that there is increasing confidence that super fast attackers will sign for Liverpool. "I can tell you guys that my confidence, speaking to my sources on this that Bradley Barcola to Liverpool is growing. The confidence is absolutely, absolutely growing so the chances to see Bradley Barcola joining Liverpool from Paris Saint Germain are growing." This is really exciting and with PSG bringing in more attackers, you'd have to think the deal now has a very high chance of being completed by the end of the summer.
