How does the Champions League draw work?
The draw for the Champions League will take place at 17:00 BST on Thursday, 27 August in Monaco. The 36 teams who qualified are split into four pots based on their individual Uefa club coefficient ranking. Starting with pot one, each team will be drawn out individually. They will then be selected eight opponents via Uefa's automated software. Paris St-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are all in pot one. A team will play eight games in total, including two teams from each pot - one home and one away. The English teams cannot play against another English team in the league phase. No group stage fixtures can be played against teams from the same country, or play more than two matches against teams from the another country. This procedure will continue until the fixtures for all 36 teams have been decided. When is the Europa League draw? Like the Champions League draw, 36 teams are divided into four pots and teams will be given eight fixtures each using the same fixture selection criteria as the Champions League. The Europa League draw and Conference League draws are combined into one ceremony. There will also be no physical balls used for the Europa League or Conference League draws, instead using a fully digital format. This will allow for what Uefa describes as a "smooth, efficient and speedy draw process." What about the Conference League draw? The Conference League draw will take place immediately after the Europa League draw, but as part of the same ceremony. Unlike the league phase of both the Champions League and Europa League, there are only six rounds of the league fixtures, rather than eight. The 36 clubs will be split into six pots of six, with each team drawn against one team from each pot. This article is the latest from BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team. More questions answered...
