Torquay United boss Jimmy Ball has confirmed that defender Jordan Dyer won't play again until 2027 after suffering a knee injury in training. The 25-year-old former Exeter City player came on as a substitute in Torquay's opening day draw with Horsham. He made 40 appearances in last season's National League South run to the play-off final. Ball told the media: "He's suffered a rupture to his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and will be seeing the surgeon tomorrow [Wednesday]. "He's a mentally strong human being. Tough times don't last, tough people do, and Jordan will come back stronger from this". In terms of getting cover in for Dyer, Ball told BBC Radio Devon: "That's a conversation for the rest of this week. I doubt we'll get anyone in before Saturday, but we've got a strong squad and enough bodies to take the strain". Ball confirmed the news following Tuesday night's 0-0 draw at home to West-Super -Mare, who had won their opening two matches. BBC Radio Devon commentator Alan Richardson described the result as "one-way traffic for Torquay for most of the match", with Gulls keeper Toby Savin making only one save, in the 96th minute. "I think it's just very hard to try and beat a team that doesn't try to win a game", Ball added. "I'm extremely frustrated, but I can't level anything at our players. "The patterns of play, the final third entries, the 18-yard box entries - I think they've given everything they can". The result gives the Gulls five points from their opening three matches in National League South, and just a single point at Plainmoor - but Ball was impressed with the fans' reaction. "I think the supporters would have booed us off last season, but the reason they are sticking with it is because they can see we are doing everything but the finishing touch - and a little bit of luck. "We're getting them there and I think it's a matter of time. We're trying to be a really aggressive and attacking team, and go after people all the time. "The hardest thing to do in the game is to score a goal. Perhaps so far we're just not slick enough in that moment, getting them off quick enough, but we're getting there."
