Liverpool and Inter Milan in talks over Curtis Jones deal
Liverpool have entered into negotiations with Inter Milan about selling Curtis Jones to the Italian champions. The two clubs are yet to agree a deal but dialogue is ongoing as Inter have resumed their attempts to buy the midfielder. Liverpool would probably agree to a sum of around €35m (£30m) – the amount Inter recently paid Tottenham for Djed Spence – to let Jones move to San Siro. Inter first showed an interest in the 25-year-old at the end of the January transfer window and then returned in June with a €25m (£21.4m) bid that Liverpool rejected. They valued Jones at nearer €40m (£34.2m) but, with the England international in the final year of his contract, they risk losing him on a free transfer if they do not sell him in the next couple of weeks. Jones has made 228 appearances for Liverpool, including 49 last season, but ended the campaign at right-back and did not start as often as he wanted in his preferred position in the centre of midfield. New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has seemed to prefer a partnership of Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai during pre-season, when Jones appeared irritated the Hungarian did not pass him the captain’s armband when substituted in the win over Wrexham.
