Premier League return 'a big moment for us all' - King

\n \n [Getty Images] \n Coventry City owner Doug King says Friday's season opener at Arsenal "is a big moment for us all" as the Sky Blues make their long-awaited return to the Premier League. Seven of the past nine teams to be promoted have not survived, so King and head coach Frank Lampard are more than aware of the challenge ahead. "Getting out of the Championship was a was a huge effort without a parachute payment, and then the next one is to try to retain ourselves in the Premier League, and we know the challenge of that," said King. "We've got good momentum, and I'm really focused. When you have good momentum you try to keep your momentum, and if you don't make it this year, you have to regroup." The Sky Blues have signed seven players so far and spent around £100m - the kind of figure which has become more common for promoted sides in recent seasons. "They're quality players that we wanted to join the football club, and I think that's important," added King. "We are targeting players that we choose, and who we were able to sell the project to. "It shows we're in a decent position when our targets want to join us. "We then have to try to get them through the door from the clubs that are selling them and that's a challenge. That takes quite a while, and it takes a lot of effort, and a lot of negotiation, and a lot of discussion. "But I'm really excited that we've added to a squad that I felt won the Championship in style last year. "There's a lot of change going on, but we've kept the core of the players who got us promoted. We've added the new players, and I think they're bedded in well. "Frank [Lampard] is focused. It's a big moment for us all. "[It's a] big moment for Frank to come in and lead his team into the Premier League that he got promoted as champions. He knows the moment. I know the moment. "We'll do our best to to execute it the best we can."
