Premier League transfer fees are incredible - Lampard

[Getty Images] Coventry boss Frank Lampard has said transfer fees in the Premier League have been an eye-opener for the Sky Blues, who will play their first top-flight game for 25 years on Friday. Striker Sidiki Cherif became the club's latest summer signing on Wednesday after joining from Fenerbahce to push the Sky Blues spending to around £130m this summer. "One of the interesting things between being a player and transitioning into a manager is that you learn about the other side of the game, as in agents, transfer fees," said the former England midfielder. "It's not the most beautiful part of the game in a way but it is the world we live in so you've got to get with that. "Of course that makes it probably more difficult to be as active as we're wanting to be this window and I think we've worked pretty well around that but you look at some of the higher transfer fees that are going on and it's incredible to where the game's at." Yet Lampard also did not rule out further changes to the squad in the final two weeks of the window, having also re-signed goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and midfielder Gus Hamer. He said: "We have tried to strike the balance of working strategically to add to what we already had, we will see what the rest of the window brings. "We had a relatively small squad last year, it worked for us, it was good for cohesion. "What is clear also though is that we're stepping up to a big level now and we need competition, competition in training, competition for game time. "The rigours of the Premier League and the different demands of the Premier League physically on the team and how we want the squad to look and the profile of the squad means that we've had to add players in different areas. "We know the level goes up so we're trying to work to make ourselves competitive at the level and we'll analyse over the next two weeks how the squad's looking."
