Fabrizio Romano confirms exciting Liverpool double transfer is on

Fabrizio Romano confirms exciting Liverpool double transfer is on Fabrizio Romano has confirmed an exciting double transfer could still happen for Liverpool. The clock is ticking for Richard Hughes. With the new season almost upon us, the Liverpool sporting director has very little time left to turn what has been an underwhelming transfer window into one that actually addresses the squad's most obvious weaknesses. There have already been setbacks. Yan Diomande is the clearest example. Liverpool identified the winger as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, only to see the deal slip away with the player eventually joining Real Madrid. That was a significant miss, particularly given how important it was for Liverpool to add another genuine difference-maker in attack this summer. Pre-season has only reinforced the need for further investment. It has given Andoni Iraola valuable information about his squad, but it has also exposed the lack of depth available to him in several key areas. That should have accelerated Liverpool's recruitment rather than slowed it down. Instead, with the opening Premier League fixture against Newcastle United at St James' Park fast approaching, there is still a sense of inactivity around the club. That cannot continue. Iraola needs a squad that is built around the demands of his football. His approach requires intensity, athleticism, depth and players capable of maintaining the same level of performance across a long season. Liverpool cannot afford to repeat last summer's mistake. The club invested heavily in the squad, but the recruitment did not produce the balance required. Important positions were left short while other areas received significant investment. This time, the recruitment has to be more strategic. Hughes needs to identify the remaining weaknesses and act quickly. If Liverpool enter the season with the same gaps that have been evident throughout pre-season, the consequences could be significant. Iraola should not be expected to compensate for an incomplete squad. The manager can only work with the tools he is given. If Hughes fails to provide those tools before the window closes, Liverpool could once again find themselves fighting against problems that should have been solved in the summer. The opportunity is still there. But time is running out. We are really entering the final stages of the transfer window, so much surrounding Liverpool is still very uncertain. We don't know what the future holds for Cody Gakpo for example. One of the side's top scorers over the course of the last two seasons, he has attracted some serious interest from Tottenham. The Londoners are interested in signing Gakpo and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the deal could happen. However, from Liverpool's point of view having already lost Mo Salah, losing Gakpo on top of the Egyptian would mean further reinforcements are needed. The Reds have signed Victor Munoz so far but he is more of a versatile striker replacement rather than out and out replacement for Salah. In Romano's recent video on YouTube , where he confirmed that Gakpo's move to Tottenham is still on, he also confirmed that if that deal happens Liverpool are going to try and complete a double deal. According to Romano, Bradley Barcola is the no.1 target but Liverpool are also planning on signing another winger on top of the Frenchman. Who that could be remains to be seen. Romano has previously stated Liverpool hold interest in Ibrahim Mbaye, so it may well be the Senegalese winger.
