It's on! Fabrizio Romano confirms mega Liverpool deal can now go ahead A mega Liverpool deal is still on according to Fabrizio Romano. The clock is ticking. Tick. Tack. Tick. Tack. Richard Hughes does not have long left now to make this a successful transfer window for Liverpool. He's already fumbled a couple of deals. Yan Diomande being the most prominent one, who ended up at Real Madrid and who was clearly the replacement lined up for Mo Salah. Pre-season has been successful but also informative for Andoni Iraola. It has exposed the lack of squad depth he has at his disposal and the need for Liverpool to invest more in the market. Yet, as we had into the season with the first game coming up against Newcastle United at St James' Park, Liverpool are still standing idle in the market. This simply cannot continue. Hughes needs to bring in reinforcements and he needs to fix the squad to make sure it is tailor-made for Iraola. Last season, Liverpool invested a lot in the market but the squad was left imbalanced. This time around, they cannot make the same mistake. If Hughes, does leave the squad filled with gaps, then Liverpool fans can expect another long season and another season where they are going to struggle. If anything the reports at the moment are not even about arrivals but departures. We already knew Ifeanyi Ndukwe, who was brilliant in pre-season was going to leave. He's closing in on a loan move to Levante. There's talk of Luke Chambers going out on loan, who was another who impressed in pre-season. Curtis Jones will likely leave for pastures new as well with Inter Milan keen on his services. Although there still seems to be a gap in valuation between the Reds and the Italian side. Nonetheless, Jones is participating in games even though he has been training with the squad and his absence on top of the fact that Liverpool have not extended his contract which expires next summer would suggest a parting of ways is necessary. That's going to create a problem for Liverpool's homegrown quota. They already lost the likes of Tyler Morton, Caoimhin Kelleher and Jarell Quansah last summer. Now on top of that Jones leaving will mean the squad will have very few club trained players left. Liverpool are going to have to fix those issues as it could leave Iraola with an even smaller squad to contend with. On top of that, there's another key problem that Liverpool are going to face which has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. That is the fact there is a strong possibility Cody Gakpo could leave the club. Speaking on his YouTube channel , Romano confirmed that despite rumours off the deal for Gakpo to join Tottenham being off, it's still very much on. According to the transfer guru, Liverpool are planning to replace Gakpo and the deal is still a possibility for Tottenham. Gakpo may not have had his best season in a Liverpool shirt under Arne Slot in the last campaign. But at this stage of the summer, Liverpool should be exploring moves to bring players into the club, not away from Anfield. The clock is very much ticking for Hughes to get his act together.
