Barcelona midfielder could receive late transfer offer as role shrinks; Juventus among clubs interested Frenkie de Jong’s Barcelona future could yet become a major talking point before the transfer window closes, despite the midfielder having recently committed his future to the club until 2029. According to SPORT , the Dutch international could receive an offer during the final stretch of the summer market as his situation at Barcelona becomes increasingly complicated. De Jong remains a highly regarded player across Europe, but competition for places in Hansi Flick’s midfield is growing.  The arrival of Rodri , combined with the presence of Marc Bernal and several other midfield options, could make regular minutes harder to come by. At the same time, De Jong’s ongoing knee issue and his decision not to undergo surgery have created further debate around his situation. The midfielder has publicly defended himself against criticism, but his relationship with sections of the Barcelona support appears to have come under pressure.  He received a muted reception during the player presentation at the Joan Gamper Trophy, highlighting the difficult atmosphere surrounding him. Competition is equally strong in the more advanced midfield roles, leaving De Jong with no guaranteed route into the starting XI. Currently nursing a serious injury, the Dutchman was left watching from the stands during the Gamper Trophy, sitting away from the main group alongside players who were not involved. That image only added to speculation surrounding his situation, particularly after De Jong was also reportedly left without the captain’s armband. The report suggests that De Jong’s knee problem is not necessarily being viewed as a deal-breaker.  Some clubs could instead see the current uncertainty as an opportunity to bring in a midfielder who remains capable of making a major impact. Hence, a possible loan could offer one route out of the situation. Barcelona could consider an arrangement in which another club takes De Jong until the end of the season, covers his substantial salary and potentially receives an option to make the move permanent. Such a structure could give the midfielder the regular playing time he wants while also helping Barcelona reduce their wage bill.
