Osho injury leaves Cardiff vulnerable - Barry-Murphy

Gabriel Osho joined Cardiff from Auxerre in the summer of 2025 [Getty Images] Head coach Brian Barry-Murphy says his Cardiff City squad is "vulnerable" after centre-back Gabriel Osho joined their list of fitness concerns. Osho was seen on crutches after the 1-1 draw with Wrexham on Monday due to a knee issue. The Championship side are already without fellow defenders Will Fish, Dylan Lawlor and Calum Chambers and have had to move established full-backs into central defence this season. Left-back Joel Bagan started the Wrexham game in a central role and Perry Ng, who normally operates at right-back, did the same in the EFL Cup win over Swindon. "We're in a situation at the moment where we're a little bit stretched, so we're a little bit vulnerable, but we feel as if we can be really competitive at the start of the season," Barry-Murphy said. "He [Osho] hyper-extended his knee late on, so he was in discomfort. "The crutches were just to make sure he wasn't weight-bearing after the game, but we'll check on him this afternoon and see if he's OK. He was quite sore after the game, so we'll have to check on him." With Osho a potential absentee for Saturday's trip to Derby County, Barry-Murphy's options are looking thin. The Irishman would not be drawn on the prospect of looking to strengthen squad in the transfer market as he attempted to remain positive. "Well, it hasn't been a challenge to decide who plays where because we have nobody else, so that's been pretty straightforward," he said. "At the moment, in that area of the pitch, we are vulnerable and that's obvious. We'll be looking to put our best team out on Saturday, be backed by a huge following, and give it absolutely everything to try and play well and win." Barry-Murphy is hopeful that Chambers will return sooner than the more long-term absentees Fish and Lawlor. "We're going to check on him," he added. "We are not sure if he'll do the full session [on Thursday], but we'll check on him this afternoon and hopefully he can move forward to Saturday. "I think if you bring in a loan player for the sake of it to have an extra number, and then in six weeks' time when Will Fish is back, or however long, and all our players are back and he's just cast aside and we don't use him ever again, you can be sure that the parent club who sent him in won't send you another player ever again. "I just want to get the players fit and healthy as soon as we can and obviously continue with our strategy in a calm and precise manner to improve the squad."
