Barcelona’s 2027/28 home kit could feature the club’s first-ever crest – report

Barcelona’s 2027/28 home kit could feature the club’s first-ever crest – report Barcelona may not have officially begun their 2026-27 season yet, but it looks like the back-end work has already started for their 2027-28 season. The Catalan club could be set for a major nod to their history in 2027-28, with the club’s home shirt potentially featuring a representation of their first crest ever. According to specialist website Footy Headlines, Nike are working on a historically inspired design that could incorporate the original Barcelona emblem. The possibility is described as highly likely at this stage, although the final design is not yet confirmed. Barcelona could revive the historic 1899 crest The crest in question dates all the way back to Barcelona’s foundation. Used between 1899 and 1910, Barça’s original badge was based on the coat of arms of the city of Barcelona rather than the familiar club-specific shield supporters recognise today. It incorporated the Cross of Saint George and the Catalan flag, alongside a crown and bat, with laurel and palm branches surrounding the emblem. Should Nike proceed with the idea, it would be the first time Barcelona have incorporated a representation of their original crest into an official match kit. That alone could make the 2027-28 shirt particularly attractive to supporters and collectors. Darker shade of Blaugrana colours The historical crest would not be the only distinctive feature. Nike intend to retain Barça’s traditional stripes while giving the Blaugrana colours a noticeably darker appearance. A deep blue would be combined with an intense garnet shade, potentially creating a more understated and classic-looking home shirt. At a time when most football clubs are moving towards more commercial tones of colour, Barcelona seem intent on embracing history. The 2027-28 home kit remains in the early stage of development, with almost a full year remaining. Therefore, these are merely initial design suggestions that may or may not make it to final approval. Barça and Nike will now discuss and try to agree on a final version that everyone finds suitable. What this does tell fans is how far ahead clubs need to start planning things like kits to ensure the launch happens at the right time. Fans will still be getting used to the new 2026-27 jersey , but Nike have already skipped to the year ahead, and it remains to be seen whether the crest and the understated colours make it to the final finished product in the market.
