West Ham urge fans not to sing ‘anti-Palestine’ Manor Solomon chant
West Ham United have condemned an “offensive and divisive” chant about Israeli winger Manor Solomon, urging fans not to sing it. The chant, which carries an anti-Palestine message, was sung by some of their supporters who travelled to their away game against Burnley on Sunday. Before the club’s first home game of the Championship season - against Charlton at the London Stadium on Saturday - the club have released a statement asking fans not to take part in any chanting which “creates division or causes offence”. They reminded their fans that “each and every supporter is an ambassador”, adding that “equality, equity, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the club.” In a statement, the east London club said: “Regardless of their background every supporter within our diverse fanbase should also be free to enjoy watching their team play football without fear, discrimination or abuse. And we remain committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe, respected and included. “The Club is aware of an offensive and divisive chant, containing an anti-Palestine message, being sung by a section of away supporters during our opening EFL Championship match at Burnley on Sunday afternoon. Solomon, 27, scored in the draw at Turf Moor last weekend on what was his competitive debut for the club. He joined from fellow London side Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The winger has been capped 49 times by Israel, scoring eight international goals. He began his career at Maccabi Petah Tikva before joining Shakhtar Donetsk, winning three Ukrainian Premier League titles and spending time on loan at Fulham. After joining Spurs in 2023 he spent time on loan at Leeds United, winning the Championship, as well as Villareal and Fiorentina. He joined relegated West Ham earlier this month for an undisclosed free, signing a three-year deal.
