Andoni Iraola's next Liverpool signing laid bare
Andoni Iraola's next Liverpool signing laid bare Andoni Iraola will be leading his men into their first Premier League game together on Sunday. Liverpool are going to be taking on Newcastle on 23 August with both teams being led by new managers. Both the Reds and the Magpies have had a lot of changes made to their squads this summer with Newcastle arguably getting rid of their most important players this summer. Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have all left which has given Matthias Jaissle a rather tough challenge to deal with. However, Iraola hasn't been much luckier with Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate both leaving Liverpool . Fortunately for the Reds, they've already managed to add a couple of new faces to their ranks but, with new rumours and links emerging every day, it's clear that the transfer window is far from finished for Iraola and Richard Hughes. Liverpool could look towards signing a new midfielder to replace Curtis Jones this summer Curtis Jones is finally on the cusp of joining Inter Milan. The Englishman has been linked with a move to the Serie A club for the last 18 months with Liverpool and the Italian giants failing to come to an agreement over the pricing of the move. However, since Jones now only has a year left on his contract, Liverpool either have to sell him now or risk losing him for nothing next summer. In the end, a Β£30 million deal was agreed and now, Jones' medical is scheduled for Friday afternoon . Talk of who Liverpool want to replace the Englishman has been rife and, while most people believe that Trey Nyoni could plug the gap, Liverpool ECHO journalist Paul Gorst seems to think that might not be the case. "It's unclear at this stage if Liverpool are planning to replace Jones with a more experienced midfielder or give 19-year-old Trey Nyoni the opportunity of more minutes after an impressive pre-season campaign under Iraola," he wrote . Liverpool's season would go much better if they signed a new central midfielder this summer Last season, even though Liverpool's midfield was one of their most stacked areas in terms of depth, massively let them down. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch performed nowhere near the standards expected of them which left a lot of the hard-work down to Dominik Szoboszlai. And, even though the Hungarian was one of the Reds' best players last term, it was clear that he had way too much pressure on his shoulders. That's why most fans thought that Liverpool would want to sign a new central midfielder this summer. Adam Wharton, Angelo Stiller and many others have been linked but, with all the work that they've had to do on their defence and attack, it feels like their recruitment team have forgotten about the centre of the park. However, with Jones definitely leaving, it's clear that a new midfielder is now needed. As mentioned, Nyoni could potentially be good enough to fill the gap but, at the moment, it's unclear whether he'll be good enough or not. So, once Jones is gone, using some of that money on a new central midfielder could genuinely be some of the best money that they spend. Here's hoping that everything works out and the Reds actually give their fans what they want.
