'A new team being built to take us to the next level' - fans on expectations

[BBC] [Getty Images] We asked you to predict what will happen between now and the end of the transfer window at Aston Villa and how the 2026-27 season will pan out for Unai Emery's side. Here are some of your comments: Peter: For me, there has been too much upheaval. With players leaving this summer and the core of the squad being ripped out, I feel Villa will be a bit disjointed while all of the new signings bed in. Therefore, I predict an uncertain start to the season, and possibly an uncertain campaign as a whole. Keith: I have no problem with any of the sales individually. Rogers is good money, Konsa is good money, Digne is a good deal for an ageing player. Martinez has a great replacement in Zion Suzuki. Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi are fantastic additions. My worry is the sheer amount of upheaval. Hopefully we can retain a good core of last season's players while gradually integrating the new players and youngsters. Keeping Emery is key, his system and passion is our greatest asset. David: We will need time for our new signings to bed in but, after last season's woeful start, surely it can't be any worse? It looks like we actually expected and planned for the departures. I'm confident Emery will steer us through this transition. James: The old team had reached its limit. Emery is now constructing a team that can achieve greater heights. He isn't here to waste his time and he isn't looking to win the Europa League again. This new team will be more unpredictable for opponents to stifle and it is being built to take us to the next level. The players sold are ones which were good business for the club, getting maximum value for assets near the end of their career. This is what elite clubs do. Stephen: The sad fact is the likes of Villa, Newcastle and Brighton are feeder clubs for the six so-called 'big clubs' now, as a result of these ludicrous financial rules. They were created to make sure that the spoils at the end of the season go to one of the said six. The FA say it is more open than ever? It is a joke!
