Leon Goretzka agrees to join Aston Villa Leon Goretzka has agreed to join Aston Villa, per journalist Matteo Moretto .  Goretzka has been a free agent since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season.  The German midfielder was previously linked with Tottenham Hotspur, but it appears he has decided to join the Midlands club.  Goretzka boasts plenty of experience at the top level of football, having spent eight years with Bayern.  He made 312 appearances across all competitions for the Bavarians, bagging 51 goals and 53 assists in the process.  Goretzka has also earned 73 caps for the German national team, with 15 goals to his name.  Villa were looking to sign his former Bayern teammate Joao Palhinha, but a transfer didn’t materialise. Palhinha is now poised to join Benfica.  The Lions have undergone significant changes in midfield this summer.  Amadou Onana picked up an ACL injury while playing for Belgium at the World Cup. He is expected to return next year in April.  Youri Tielemans left to join Manchester United, prompting the club’s chiefs to bring in reinforcements.  Villa signed Johan Manzambi for £52 million before securing a £38m move for Joao Gomes.  They are now close to adding Goretzka to the squad.
