Rangers Identify This Turkish Attacker As A Summer Target: Why He Would Bolster Their Squad If a recent report from the Turkish outlet Takvim is true, Rangers are plotting a summer move for Oguz Aydin. But they are not alone in the hunt, with Dutch giants Feyenoord, Spanish side Espanyol and the Bundesliga outfit Hamburg also keeping close tabs on the Fenerbahce attacker. Born in the Netherlands, the 25-year-old Turkiye international progressed through AZ’s academy ranks before moving to Bucaspor. After a brief stint with the reserves, he earned senior status, appearing regularly for Bucaspor and Bucaspor 1928, as well as a loan spell at Karacabey Belediyespor across the second and third divisions of the Turkish football pyramid. His promises and potential did not go unnoticed, as the top-flight club Alanyaspor splashed €1.14m to secure his services in June 2021. There, he flourished over time and delivered an emphatic 2023-24 season, which led to his €6m transfer to Fener. Aydin impressed in his maiden campaign for the Super Lig giants under José Mourinho, but struggled last term, failing to find the net in 39 appearances across competitions. He has primarily featured as the understudy to Kerem Aktürkoğlu on the left-hand flank. Moreover, Mason Greenwood and Nene Dorgeles are being rotated down the right, limiting him to 63 minutes of action in 5 UEFA Champions League qualifying-round encounters. Why Rangers Should Get The Deal Done The Turkish ace should seek a fresh opportunity for assured gametime at this stage of his career, and Rangers, lacking depth on the wing, must test Fener’s resolve ahead of the other suitors. His representatives have met the club’s chiefs to explore all the options, thus making an exit more likely than staying put for another year. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images) Rangers have bolstered the squad significantly with several new signings, including Lawrence Shankland and Daisuke Yokota among the attacking recruits. While they are exploring the market for another ‘number 9’ after Youssef Chermiti ruptured his ACL, strengthening the flanks must be a priority, with Yokota the only addition so far following the departure of Oliver Antman, Danilo and Nedim Bajrami. Besides the Japanese wideman, Djeidi Gassama and Findlay Curtis are the only alternatives, as they have been rotated extensively early in the season. Vaclav Cerny and Kim Min-Su are also in their books , but Aydin, expected to be available for an affordable fee, should be pursued to restore depth and parity in the attacking third. Predominantly right-footed, the Fenerbahce forward prefers to operate on the left. But he is also comfortable from the right, as well as in a ‘number 10’ spot, as his work rate, ability to shield and hold onto the ball under pressure and his passing and pressing game could make him an asset at Ibrox.
