Is Sevilla's 'all-round striker' Ure ready to lead Scotland's attack?

Now, it is an uncapped Scotsman . Robbie Ure was in demand across Europe after a free-scoring spell with Sirius resulted in a £5.5m move to La Liga, where he has contributed to Sevilla's winning start to the season. The reasons why the Rangers academy product was provided a platform to shine in Sweden before switching to Spain this month form part of a wider discussion as the Scottish FA prepares to hold a "critically important" youth development summit. But in the more immediate future, fans are questioning whether Ure can be the answer to Scotland's striker problem as new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli runs the rule over his options for his first squad for next month's Nations League fixtures. Can Pocognoli afford to continue McBurnie's Scotland exile? Scottish striker Ure makes £5.5m Sevilla move Meet Sweden's top scorer who hopes to play for Scotland Ukraine lurking but Ure wants Scotland Ure had 20 goals and three assists in 20 matches in all competitions across the ongoing Swedish season before choosing Spain as his next destination. In Sevilla's La Liga curtain-raiser last weekend, he came off the bench at half-time and won a stoppage-time penalty to help his new side secure a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano. Seven days later, the Scot started in another win as Sevilla ended Saturday on top of the table by defeating 10-man Athletic Club in Bilbao. Ure played the entirety of the 3-1 victory and, although his underlying stats point towards a challenging first start, his relentless pressing on Spain's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Unai Simon was key to his team's opener. The 22-year-old is awaiting his first Sevilla goal, but 31 strikes in 50 matches for Sirius suggest he will not have to wait long. That club form has also attracted international interest, but not yet from Scotland, it seems. He is eligible to play for Ukraine through his grandparents and has had contact from the nation. However, he told the BBC last month that his preference is to wait for the call from Scotland, for whom he has featured at Under-19 level. "My ambition is to play with Scotland one day," Ure said. "But I have no stress for that situation. I feel like what I do at club level will give me the opportunities I deserve. "There's been contact [from Ukraine]. But it's not a decision I would rush. I certainly feel I'd want to play for Scotland." From 'raw potential' to 'classic all-round striker' Thirty-one goals and seven assists in 50 games for Sirius earned Robbie Ure a move to La Liga club Sevilla [BBC] A comical Open Goal clip of host Si Ferry revealing he picked up the phone to try to sign Anderlecht-bound Ure for East Kilbride in 2023 has become even more amusing now given what the forward has gone on to achieve. At least he was being offered a Scottish stage to excel on, something that continues to be seriously lacking for many talented youngsters across the country. Ure left Rangers after three senior appearances and one goal, then spent the following 18 months in Belgium. He struggled for first-team minutes there too, playing only once for Anderlecht despite impressing for their reserve team. But a move to Sweden in 2025 has proved to be the making of Ure, who has since developed into a "classic all-round striker" capable of leading Scotland's attack, according to Helsingborgs boss Stevie Grieve. "You could see his raw potential when he first arrived," says the Scottish coach, who coached against Ure twice during the forward's time in the Swedish second tier. Speaking to BBC Scotland, Grieve added: "You could see the willingness to run in behind, the strength to hold off defenders, and the touch and the finishing were there. "But over the past year the timing of the runs, the dropping in and the link-up play have improved massively. "He started to drop in like a false nine, turn away from pressure, switch it, link between the lines and release runners. He's a large part of why Sirius are top of the league."
