Barcelona face dilemma with new goalkeeper signing after Dinamo Zagreb change loan conditions Barcelona have completed the signing of Dominik Livakovic , but the Croatian goalkeeper’s future for the coming season remains unresolved as the club’s preferred loan arrangement has hit an unexpected obstacle. The 31-year-old has joined Barcelona from Fenerbahce in a deal worth €2 million plus a possible €500,000 in variables.  After arriving in Barcelona on Tuesday , Livakovic is scheduled to undergo his medical examination on Wednesday before putting pen to paper on a contract running until 2030. The signing itself is not the issue. The question Barcelona must now answer is where their new goalkeeper will spend the season. Dinamo Zagreb’s new demand creates problem According to SPORT , Barcelona initially planned to send Livakovic out on a one-year loan before integrating him into the first-team setup in 2027, when Wojciech Szczesny’s spell at the club comes to an end. A return to Dinamo Zagreb appeared to offer the ideal solution.  Livakovic knows the club well after spending several years there between 2016 and 2023, and he also played for the Croatian side during the second half of last season. According to reports, Barcelona, Livakovic and Dinamo Zagreb had reached a verbal understanding over a one-season loan. However, the situation has now changed after Dinamo revised their conditions. The Croatian club wants Livakovic for two years rather than one, hoping to settle their goalkeeping situation over a longer period instead of facing the same problem again next summer. While this request makes sense from Dinamo’s perspective, it does not fit Barcelona’s. Barcelona’s plan leaves little room for compromise Barcelona’s decision to sign Livakovic is closely connected to their longer-term planning between the posts. (Photo by Darrian Traynor/Getty Images) The club see Joan Garcia as their first-choice goalkeeper, while Livakovic is expected to provide experienced competition and cover from the 2027/28 season onwards, once Szczesny’s current contract expires. A two-year loan would therefore leave Barcelona without Livakovic at precisely the point they expect him to become part of their first-team plans. That is why the disagreement over the loan duration is more significant than it might initially appear.  Barcelona are not only looking for a temporary destination for a goalkeeper, but they are trying to manage the final year of a carefully planned transition. With the proposed Dinamo Zagreb arrangement no longer matching Barcelona’s plans, the club will need to assess its options further.
