WSL 2: Halle Houssein joins Sheffield United on loan from West Ham Halle Houssein has joined Sheffield United on loan for the 2026/27 season, with the midfielder set to continue her development in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2. The 21-year-old will spend the upcoming campaign with the Blades after West Ham United confirmed the season-long move. The loan provides Houssein with another opportunity to gain regular first team football and valuable experience as she continues to develop her career. Halle Houssein’s West Ham journey Houssein initially joined West Ham from Arsenal on dual-registration in January 2022 before making the move permanent later that year. She made an immediate impression on her Hammers debut, scoring against Chelsea in the FA Women’s League Cup quarter-final in January 2022. Just two weeks later, Houssein made her Women’s Super League debut in a 3-0 home victory over Everton. The midfielder went on to establish herself as part of the club’s first team squad while also gaining experience through loan spells. She joined Gillingham during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign, making nine appearances for the club in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division. The following season, she moved to Reading on loan, where she became a regular in their midfield. Houssein made 13 Women’s Super League appearances for the Royals, starting all 13, and also featured in the Women’s FA Cup and League Cup. In total, she made 18 appearances for Reading during the 2023/24 campaign. She later spent the second half of the 2024/25 season with Turkish side Beylerbeyi, gaining further experience before returning to West Ham. International experience Alongside her club career, Houssein has also represented both England and Türkiye. She was capped by England at youth level, including appearances for the U15 and U19 sides, before switching her international allegiance to Türkiye. Houssein made her senior Türkiye debut in July 2024 during a UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualifying match against Switzerland. She has since continued to feature for the national team and earned her first start during a 3-0 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying victory over Malta in March 2026. Her international experience adds another valuable element to her development as she prepares for a new challenge in the second tier. The move comes after a 2025/26 season in which she made five appearances for West Ham across all competitions. Her campaign included a particularly impressive performance in the Subway Women’s League Cup, where she registered two assists during a 5-1 victory over Charlton Athletic. A season playing regularly in the WSL 2 should give Houssein the opportunity to build on her previous experience while continuing to develop at senior level. Looking ahead At 21, Houssein already has experience of the WSL, second tier football and international competition behind her. Her move to Sheffield United represents another important step in her career, giving her the chance to play regularly and continue her progression away from East London. For West Ham, the loan will allow Houssein to gain further first-team experience before returning to the club. The Hammers will be keeping a close eye on her progress throughout the 2026/27 season as she begins this latest chapter with Sheffield United.
