That creates the possibility of a deadline day negotiation. The 22-year-old Senegal international has already accumulated 30 caps and scored four international goals. His Monaco contract runs until 2029, giving the Ligue 1 club considerable negotiating strength. Monaco reportedly value Camara at approximately €50 million and regard him as one of their prized assets alongside Folarin Balogun. There is consequently little incentive for Monaco to accept a substantially reduced fee unless circumstances change. Alex Scott Remains Another Liverpool Option Camara’s emergence also adds another dimension to Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. Scott knows Iraola particularly well from their time together at Bournemouth and has rejected a new contract at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth’s reported £90 million valuation, however, makes that particular reunion extremely expensive. Chelsea have reportedly already seen an offer of around £70 million rejected, while Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have also shown interest. Camara at €50 million would represent a considerably different financial proposition. Liverpool’s decision may ultimately reveal how seriously the club views its midfield vulnerability. Trusting Nyoni with increased minutes is perfectly reasonable. Asking a 19-year-old to compensate for an underlying structural problem would be a much greater gamble. Camara could provide Iraola with the specialist presence Liverpool currently appear to lack. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this is one of the more intriguing midfield links of the summer. There has been plenty of discussion about replacing Jones in terms of minutes, but Liverpool should probably be thinking about something more fundamental. The question is whether this midfield actually has the right balance for Iraola’s football. Nyoni deserves opportunities. His development should be encouraged rather than blocked by another expensive signing simply because Jones has left. Camara, though, would potentially occupy a different role. Liverpool have enough players who want to influence possession higher up the pitch. What they appear to need is someone capable of providing security when those players move forward. The Newcastle game supplied an early warning. Liverpool were too easy to play through centrally, and that becomes particularly concerning when Iraola wants his side to press aggressively and commit numbers forward. €50 million also feels far more digestible than the reported £90 million required for Scott. Scott’s familiarity with Iraola carries obvious value, but Bournemouth’s valuation creates an enormous burden of expectation. Camara would be fascinating because this feels like a move based upon squad architecture rather than replacing one departing player with another. If Liverpool genuinely believe he can become the controlling No. 6 this midfield requires, deadline day could suddenly become very interesting.
