Reliable journalist drops major hint on Barcelona’s mystery signing: ‘Only football fanatics would know him’ Barcelona could be preparing a surprise move in the transfer market after a major revelation from Matteo Moretto suggested that the club are working to bring in a new left-footed defender. Speaking on DAZN , Moretto offered a tantalising clue about Barcelona’s plans, revealing that the player in question is not currently playing in Spain and may not be a familiar name to casual followers of European football. “He doesn’t play in Spain and isn’t very well known. I reckon you’d only know who he is if you’re a football fanatic.” The revelation comes as Barcelona’s sporting management continues to work discreetly on strengthening the left side of the defence, with a specialist left-footed centre-back understood to be a strategic priority for the first team. The search has also had consequences closer to home, with Alvaro Cortes deciding to leave as the club pursues an external solution for the position. With the mystery defender not playing in Spain, Aymeric Laporte can seemingly be ruled out of the immediate equation.  The Spanish international and World Cup winner had recently been linked with a move to Barcelona, but there appears to be no agreement in place for the former Manchester City defender at this stage. Barcelona’s need, however, remains clear. The club want a naturally left-footed option capable of operating on the left side of central defence. The fact that Barcelona are exploring the market suggests they are not looking for a squad player. Rather, they want a specific profile. Barcelona have explored the possibility of signing the 23-year-old, who is among the defenders being monitored by the Catalan club. Flick is also said to be a strong admirer of the Frenchman. Lukeba’s appeal lies not only in his ability as a centre-back but also in the flexibility he could offer the Barcelona manager.  Comfortable at left-back as well, he could provide depth across the back line while maintaining the left-footed balance Flick wants. That versatility could make him particularly attractive to Barcelona, especially as the club assess how best to strengthen the squad without compromising on tactical requirements.
