Lyon forced to raise €100m in player sales following Champions League exit
Lyon forced to raise €100m in player sales following Champions League exit After being eliminated in the final UEFA Champions League qualifying round by Fenerbahçe, Lyon will need to raise a significant amount of funds through player sales to cover the financial implications of not qualifying for Europe’s premier continental competition. Romain Molina reports that they will likely need to raise around €100m from player sales before the start of next summer to balance the books. Les Gones agonisngly crashed out of the competition despite scoring two goals in the second half which would have seen them in the draw for this evening’s league phase. However, both goals were ruled out and the Turkish club emerged as victors after establishing a two goal lead in the first half. Fire sale at Lyon before the window closes? With less than one week of the transfer window remaining, it will likely be busy at the Groupama Stadium as OL will be forced to sell players to raise as much transfer funds as possible.
