Official | Augsburg sign South Korean wing-back Young-Woo Seol, Keven Schlotterbeck departure draws nearer FC Augsburg have officially confirmed the signing of South Korean international Young-Woo Seol from Red Star Belgrade. The 27-year-old wing-back has signed a contract through 2030. Kicker reports that Augsburg will pay €3.75m plus potential bonuses, while Red Star are also understood to have secured a five percent sell-on clause. The 37-times-capped international spent two seasons with Red Star after leaving hometown club Ulsan in 2024. Seol accumulated 101 competitive appearances in Serbia, contributing eight goals and 16 assists while also gaining Champions League and Europa League experience. The South Korean World Cup participant provides Augsburg with considerably more flexibility at the wingback position, having worked on both sides in his career. As noted in our Get German Football News’ 2026/27 Augsburg tactical preview, the Fuggerstädter appear committed to deploying new summer acquisition Hennes Behrens on the left during the coming Bundesliga season. The right side of head coach Manuel Baum’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation is nevertheless less settled. The newcomer will compete with Robin Fellhauer and Marius Wolf while providing cover for Hennes Behrens on the opposite flank. Keven Schlotterbeck set for Southampton switch Keven Schlotterbeck is now expected to leave Augsburg for Championship side Southampton. The move comes as something of a surprise after the 29-year-old captained Baum’s side in their 2-0 DFB-Pokal victory over Energie Cottbus. Schlotterbeck had lost his regular starting role toward the end of last season and initially considered leaving. Cédric Zesiger’s subsequent return to Switzerland appeared to improve his prospects, however, and the defender was no longer actively pushing for an exit. Southampton’s intervention has changed matters. GGFN reported on Wednesday that Schlotterbeck was closing in on a move to Southampton , with Sky Germany placing the total package at approximately €4.5m including add-ons. Kicker reports a fixed fee of €3.85m. The move would give Schlotterbeck his first opportunity outside Germany after spells with Freiburg, Union Berlin, Bochum and Augsburg. It would also force Augsburg to reconsider a defensive department that had appeared relatively settled only weeks ago. The GGFN tactical preview projected Schlotterbeck as the established left-sided member of Baum’s back three alongside Chrislain Matsima and rising German-American talent Noahkai Banks. With Schlotterbeck now departing, summer arrival Calvin Brackelmann becomes a more obvious candidate for increased minutes. Augsburg may nevertheless return to the transfer market. Kicker notes that only five realistic candidates would remain for Baum’s three-man defence, with natural midfielder Yannik Keitel included among them.
