The Russian controlled and finished. It wasn’t until the 63rd minute that Lukas Hradecky was tested. By the time the Finnish made his first save, tipping Maksym Khlan’s shot around the corner, the game was already beyond the Polish side. Hradecky’s opposite number, Philipp Schulze, was not so decisive and it was his weak parry from a Mathys Detourbet shot that fell straight to Mika Biereth. Another simple finish, another sheepish celebration, and it was getting ugly for the Polish visitors. There was time for a Paulo Bernardo consolation, but only long after the game, as a contest, had already ended. It wasn’t dazzling for Monaco, but it didn’t have to be as they ensured that they would at least play some form of European football this season. There was, at times, too much noncholance, a lack of urgency in his play when it was required. There was also a sloppiness and an indecision. But he assisted Brunner’s opener and then got Monaco’s second on the night. Two goal contributions, not a bad night, even if it hides some shortcomings in his performance more broadly. Aleksandr Golovin – 6 The Russia international has a special knack of slowing the game down when it ought to be accelerated. This was by no means a stellar performance and his fluffed chance, when he failed to control and should have shot first time, summarised his first-half performance.
