Barcelona latest summer signing makes his training debut with team, midfielder absent Dominik Livakovic is already working with the group at FC Barcelona. The Croatian goalkeeper took part in Friday’s on-field session alongside the players who either played limited minutes or did not feature against Athletic Club, according to SPORT . It was Livakovic’s first official training session with his new teammates after signing a four-year contract with Barcelona on Thursday . The goalkeeper met with the other goalkeepers at Hansi Flick’s disposal, Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny, with all three potentially sharing the squad this season. Everything will depend on the financial fair-play margin available to Barcelona. If the club has enough room, Livakovic will be registered and compete with Szczesny for the backup goalkeeper role. A long-term solution behind Joan Garcia Livakovic’s transfer was announced on Thursday. The Croatian would then return to Barcelona next season, once Szczesny’s contract expires. Livakovic has signed through 2030, making the 31-year-old a long-term investment and a reliable potential successor to Joan Garcia. Livakovic arrives with considerable experience and an established reputation, particularly from his performances for Croatia. He is not yet registered in La Liga, although the No. 25 shirt is currently available should Barcelona be able to register him. His immediate future therefore depends less on sporting considerations than on the club’s financial room in the final stages of the transfer window. Caution with Gavi Recovering from a knock. (Photo by Francisco Macia/Getty Images) Meanwhile, Gavi did not train on Friday either as he continues to recover from the contusion to his right leg suffered during Barcelona’s league opener against Elche. The injury is considered minor, but Barcelona are taking a cautious approach. Gavi could return to the squad for Monday’s match against Rayo Vallecano, although there is no reason to rush him. The fact that the blow affected the same knee where he previously suffered a serious injury means Barcelona are understandably being particularly careful with his recovery. Frenkie de Jong also remains sidelined because of the knee injury he suffered at the World Cup. For now, he is undergoing conservative treatment with the aim of avoiding surgery. Apart from those two cases, the rest of Hansi Flick’s squad is in good condition. The Athletic Club match left no new injuries behind, with only the accumulated fatigue to manage.
