Lyon sporting director Matthieu Louis-Jean provides hopeful update on Roma target Malick Fofana

Lyon sporting director Matthieu Louis-Jean provides hopeful update on Roma target Malick Fofana Lyon sporting director Matthieu Louis-Jean has said it is “possible” that Roma transfer target Malick Fofana (21) will remain with Les Gones. Fofana joined OL two and a half years ago and quickly established himself as a regular starter on the left wing. Although he missed much of the 2025-26 season following a serious ankle injury sustained last October, the Belgian has since regained his form and made an excellent start to the 2026-27 campaign. Nevertheless, with OL under pressure to sell players for around fifty million euros following their failure to qualify for the Champions League, the future of Fofana – the most valuable player in Les Rouge et Bleu squad – remains uncertain. This has not stopped the club’s management from harbouring hopes of keeping him. “It’s possible he’ll stay; there are several clubs showing interest in Malick, but we have a plan and we’re going to stick to it – we know what we have to do,” Louis-Jean told Canal+ on the sidelines of the Europa League draw. Asked about the club’s financial situation, the Lyon director continued: “We’re not going to change course. We have four days to adjust our situation; we need to sell. It’s not a question of price; it’s a question of options for us, and we have to do what’s best for us.” Roma, like the other suitors for Fofana, now have until 1st September to convince OL to let him go.
